We're going on a trip in our favorite rocket ship
Has it been long enough since I wrote about the glories of the public library system that I can do it again? After such a sick day yesterday, Miriam had a great night. She only woke up between 3 and 4:30, then slept again til 8:30! Wow! What a girl! And although she was coughing and breathing raspily, she was pleasant and happy and was playing with her stuff and asking to eat and watching her movies when she politely asked for Little Einsteins. "Mimi watch Einsteins please?" Uh... we didn't check out a Little Einsteins last time we were at the library. Oops. Usually when she wants something we don't have, she understands and chooses something that we do. But not this time. She was sick and gawldarnit she wanted Little Einsteins. So we went to the website and saw that it listed a copy of Little Einsteins at our library. But that's been wrong before. So before I packed up a much-better-but-still-sick kid, I called Miss Kami and gave her the scoop. She went and checked on the shelf and pulled not one, but TWO dvds of Little Einsteins for Miriam. Oh hooray! So I packed up my much-better-but-still-sick kid and drove down to the library. Miriam was so excited to see Miss Kami AND get Little Einsteins that she just couldn't keep calm. She bounced her way to see Miss Kami, received condolences along with her stamps, and we picked up our two Little Einsteins. On one of them there was a taped get-well-soon note from Miss Kami adorned with the stamps Miriam gets every visit. I am so lucky to have a librarian who loves my daughter! Miriam was thrilled with the movies and we watched them as soon as we got home, then after her nap, then before dinner. She was so excited about it that she didn't even want to stop for fries on the way home... just get there and watch Einsteins! Below, you can see Miriam hugging the box as she watches the movie, and a closeup of Miriam pointing to Miss Kami's note. What service! And I didn't have to spend a penny! Hooray for the library!

My kids love Little Einsteins! I wish that Annie, the one who loves to sing, could actually sing. It's painful to listen to her sometimes.
Henry finally seems ready and willing to switch to 1 nap per day. This has opened the possibility of us finding a library class that we like, because most of the classes start between 9:30 and 10:15 (the previous time of the morning nap). Today was our first day. Henry loved it. He clapped and sang and rolled his hands like the wheels on the bus. He gave hi 5's and knuckles to the other parents in the room. And he politely asked for "more toys please" when the library lady was handing out toys for the kids to play with during the last 5 minutes of class. While it was nice, our library lady was no Miss Kami. It was our first day, so I didn't expect any special treatment, but there were so many kids in the class that there is no chance the lady will ever know who Henry is. She didn't indicate that she knew who ANY of the kids in class were. I have a few more library options that we are going to check out before we pick the one we like, but my hopes aren't high. There just aren't that many Miss Kami's out there. But if Henry can't have one, at least Miriam does! And thank goodness Miss Kami was there to help little Mim get to see the Little Einsteins! Send her a "get well soon" wish from us!
Well, I am pleased that your little girl is starting to feel better. Not a fun time for you or the kiddo. I know the frustrations and fears of watching your child not being able to breath. That can be scary. Best wishes.
She's such a cutie! Hopefully Little Einsteins was just what she needed to get her through another night. Hooray for good and thoughtful librarians!
Good luck to you these next couple of weeks! How exciting that you're so close to having another little miracle join your family!
Natalie, you're right in that Annie is no Idol. But I can take her much better than the speech-song technique that Barney and company use!
Erin, HOORAY for Henry loving the library class! So you know, we went to numerous libraries before I found that the one closest to us, which is supertiny and the one I always referred to as the "Mini Library," had such a great class. It's advertised for kids 3-5, and I was focused toddler stuff, so I missed it until I just decided to crash the 3-5 class. So maybe trying another library will work. ALSO, Kami is a very recent addition to our library. I don't know when she got there, but I'm sure it was in the past year or so. They could hire somebody great! And even if they don't, you and the parents can enjoy Henry's politeness and involvement.
Ginger, she LOVED the Einsteins and watched it virtually nonstop for the past two days. Although I usually prefer the Einsteins to most of her programming choices, it was almost a relief when she asked for the Wiggles tonight. And yes, we are completely gearing up for Eli's arrival. I'm sure you're getting excited for your little guy, too!
